Historic Newtown Market Day

Historic Newtown Market Day returns Oct. 3 for its 49th year, bringing artists, crafters, food vendors, live music and family activities to the borough. The annual event began as a celebration of the colonial tradition of farmers and homesteaders bringing crops, livestock and homemade goods into town to sell to neighbors. Today, the event features fine artists, crafters and food artisans.

Visitors can also see colonial-era demonstrations and reenactments, along with activities for families. Two stage areas will feature live music, while food trucks and other vendors will offer food and artisan treats.

The event is free to attend and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rain date is Oct. 4.

Northampton Day Festival

The Northampton Day Festival returns Oct. 4 for a day of live entertainment, local vendors, food trucks and family activities in Richboro. The annual festival, presented by the Northampton Day Committee and Gasper Garden Center, brings together local businesses, artisans and community organizations for a free, family-friendly event.

Visitors can browse booths featuring local vendors and businesses, enjoy live performances throughout the day and sample food from a variety of food trucks. Family activities will also be available, with entertainment designed for visitors of all ages.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission and entertainment are free.

Paranormal Cirque Specter

A dark and twisted circus is coming to Langhorne this weekend, combining circus arts, theater and cabaret with a supernatural edge.

Paranormal Cirque Specter brings its big-top production to the Oxford Valley Mall parking lot, where aerial performers, illusionists, contortionists and mysterious characters take the stage.

The production takes place under a large tent and mixes elaborate performances with eerie scenes, suspense and unexpected surprises. The show is intended for mature audiences and carries an R rating for intense and graphic content. No one younger than 13 will be admitted. Guests ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult, and the production includes strobe lighting.

Paranormal Cirque Specter will be presented Oct. 2 to 5, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Peddler's Village Scarecrow Festival

Fall comes alive at Peddler’s Village, where pathways are lined with more than 150 colorful, creative scarecrows throughout the annual Scarecrows in the Village display. This year’s display includes about 65 scarecrows made by Peddler’s Village shops and restaurants, along with more than 130 entries from individuals, families, businesses and organizations throughout the area.

The scarecrows are judged by visitors — guests can vote through the Peddler’s Village mobile app through Oct. 14, and paper ballots are also available in the shops.

The Scarecrows in the Village display is free, meaning visitors don't have to shop or dine to enjoy it. They can park for free, walk the paths, look at the gardens and scarecrows, take photographs or bring a bagged lunch and spend the day.

Ross Mill Farm pig tours

Known as the “Home of the Pet Pig,” Ross Mill Farm in Jamison is devoted entirely to pigs, offering rescue, boarding, education and adoption services. Susan Magidson, the farm’s sole owner, said it is the only farm in Pennsylvania that operates as a pet pig facility of its kind.

The farm’s guided tours take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday through the end of November, giving visitors a chance to see the operation firsthand. Visitors hear about 10 to 12 pigs during a typical tour, including Frankie the “Swientist”, a particularly memorable resident.
Guests are given a back scratcher to use along the fences, where pigs often come over looking for attention. If the pigs are in the mood, visitors may even get the chance to give them a belly rub.

Guided farm tours are by appointment only and last approximately one hour. To schedule an appointment, visit rossmillfarm.com or call 215-322-1539. The minimum donation for a tour is $50 for up to six people, with an additional $10 per person.

Spirits on Main ghost tours

Spirits on Main, a guided ghost walk, produced in partnership with Valerius Productions and the Lower Bucks Paranormal Society, has returned for a second fall of ghost stories, historic mysteries and reported paranormal encounters along the borough’s streets.

The tour begins at the Cellar, located at the back of the Yardley General, before continuing toward the police station and town hall. From there, guests travel along Canal Street before looping back toward The Vault The tour then continues to the old library at Lake Afton before ending at the Continental Tavern, where guests have the opportunity to go below the building into a historic chamber.

The tours are designed to be family-friendly, with no jump scares. Guides wear Halloween costumes and present the darker stories in a lighthearted way.

The Yardley tour also has several partnerships with local businesses along the route. At the Cellar and The Vault, for example, guests can stop in for designated spooky-themed cocktails to enjoy while listening to the stories at those locations. The tour also partners with Yardley Tattoo, where guests can get a flash tattoo and receive a discount code for Spirits on Main.

Spirits on Main tours are approximately 90 minutes and cover about a mile at a slow walking pace. The tours are family-friendly, and guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes because some walkways are uneven. Halloween costumes are welcome.

Spirits on State ghost tours

Spirits on State, a new guided ghost walk produced in partnership with Valerius Productions and the Lower Bucks Paranormal Society, takes visitors past historic buildings, former hotels, secret societies and sites connected to reported paranormal encounters and true crime.

The approximately 90-minute tour begins at the Newtown Theatre and ends at the Temperance House. Along the route, guides discuss the Brick Hotel, Countryside Frames, Newtown Library, Half Moon Inn, Court Inn, Newtown Friends Meeting House, Bird N Hand, Newtown Hardware House and Tubby Olive.

The tour combines historical research with stories collected from people who live and work in the borough. One stop, the Tubby Olive, was the site of an overnight paranormal investigation.
The Temperance House, the tour's final stop, also has stories of reported paranormal activity, including a child ghost. The tour also includes stories connected to prominent local figures and Newtown's historic buildings, including the Newtown Theatre, which has operated continuously since 1906.

The tours are family-friendly and designed to combine history with paranormal stories without jump scares. The tour also partners with local businesses, including the Temperance House, where guests can stop afterward for food, drinks and spooky-themed cocktails.

Spirits on State tours run Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Oct. 28, with tours at 6:30 and 8 p.m. at the Newtown Theatre,. The route is approximately a half-mile. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes.

Valley of Fear

The woods are waiting at the Valley of Fear, which returns for its 36th year with ghosts, monsters and other frightening surprises in Feasterville for another Halloween season.

The fright-filled lineup features three chilling attractions, including the Original Haunted Hayride, which takes visitors through a dark, winding trail where large sets and unexpected scares can appear around any corner.

At Shipwreck Cove, the ghost of One-Eyed Willie has returned in search of his long-lost treasure. Those who venture into his haunted world may encounter more than they bargained for.

Miles Manor Haunted House returns for another season with redesigned rooms and new sets, giving visitors a chance to make their way through a house filled with frightening encounters.

Guests can choose individual attractions or purchase combination tickets, including a three-attraction Fear Pass. Tickets are available online or at the box office during operating nights.
