Posted

Summer days may be dwindling, but August has a ton of awesome programs.

The famous musical duo of Rodgers & Hammerstein is the focus of Fred Miller’s latest “Lecture in Song” on Saturday, August 9 at 1 pm:  Learn how these Bucks County natives made the world sing. Registration required.

Meet author Beatriz Williams on Tuesday, August 12 at 6 pm as she discusses her new book “Under the Stars,” presented in partnership with the Newtown Bookshop.  A portion of the proceeds benefits the library.  Register with the Newtown Bookshop at www.newtownbookshop.com.

Before photographic portraiture, our ancestors used an elegant but inexpensive way of capturing a person’s likeness—the silhouette.  Join Kimberly Praria, Executive Director of Historic Fallsington, on Saturday, August 16 at 1 pm as she explores this eighteenth century “selfie” technique in “Taking Shade: Silhouettes & Colonial Portraiture”.  Registration required.

Pearl S. Buck, another Bucks County native, touched the world with her writing.  On Monday, August 18 at 6 pm, Susan Berrodin of Pearl S. Buck International explores her writing career in “Pearl’s Literary Opus”.  Registration required.

September Preview: Registration required.

Thursday, September 11 at 6 pm: “Genealogy Class: DNA”: Learn about privacy concerns, the different tests, and more. This is a basic, introductory group class to DNA presented by library staff.

Saturday, September 13, at 1 pm: “True Crime in Bucks County”, presented by Annie Halliday of the Mercer Museum Library.

Tuesday, September 16 at 10 am: Tuesday morning matinees resume a fall schedule.

Our diverse adult programming addresses the five literacies: Basic, Civic & Social, Financial, Health, and Information which the Pennsylvania Library Association finds integral to empowering its citizens.  Through this programming, the library has maintained the state’s PA Forward Gold Star status since 2017.
